Trying to find a cost effective way to move can be stressful and time consuming. Yes, there is the internet, but many of the larger moving companies own top placement and charge way too much that the average customer simply can not afford.

And, there's free posting sites that list movers and labor, but many of them are not licensed or fly by night operations.

You might ponder moving yourself, but there's a chance of self injury or damaging your furniture and other household goods due to being an amateur mover.

Plus, friends or family members are never around to help out. In addition, if you can get past the moving part, driving the rental truck can be a major hassle. From the rental store, it will drive like a kitten. However, once loaded to capacity, it handles a heck of a lot different.

If your not experienced driving a fully loaded moving truck, do not chance it because you could cause a serious accident and hurt either you or other people. So, where do you turn for help?

Can you say, “moving portal sites?” Sites like this list pre-screened licensed and insured movers in your area. Many of these moving companies are small to midsize that pay a fee to be listed. Their own sites, if they have one, have literally no visibility due to larger moving companies hoarding the internet.

How do you know when you come across one? They will give you an option for choosing a moving company near you. However, there are some that dedicate the entire website to a licensed and insured mover in your area. Many times, if the domain does not match the name of the company, chances are the website is being leased.

As previously mentioned, these are small to midsize moving companies which means their rates can be a lot lower and the service just as good. But, you would never know because their visibility on the internet is almost non existent.

Sometimes, smaller is better. The process is very simple. Bigger moving companies have a larger overhead and, therefore charge more money, but it does not always mean they are better.

Be advised, larger moving companies have even caught onto portal sites and have masked themselves with a “landing page” or even a portal site of their own.

So, be sure to inquire the name of the moving company. However, that's not to say that all household names are bad, just more expensive.
