Do you like sandy beaches, good weather, fancy restaurants and beautiful homes? Then you will love Santa Monica. Situated on Santa Monica Bay and surrounded by Los Angeles, Santa Monica is one of the nicest and at the same time expensive places to live in! If you are thinking of moving here, you should seriously think about your financial situation because you will need a lot of money to enjoy this city to the fullest!

Residential Costs

You will need a place to stay. If you are single, a one room bedroom will be enough, but if you have a family, you'll need to move into something larger. No doubt, the neighborhood is very nice: clean and safe, close to the ocean and sunny all the time. Of course all these add to the cost of rent, so expect to pay $ 1,200 for a small one bedroom apartment. For a two bedroom apartment, the rent can go as high as $ 3,000. If you want to buy a house, you'll have to spend thousands of dollars or even millions.

Food and fun

You'll need to eat and you'll probably want to enjoy all those beautiful sights and restaurants. This will probably take another $ 1,000 out of your pockets if you are frugal. If you want to have a blast, you'll need to spend a lot more. For example, a typical meal at a good restaurant will cost you $ 20 for one person. If you want to go shopping, the shops on Montana Avenue await you. However you can also find cheaper shops. Not everything is that expensive and you can find good merchandise at affordable prices!

Education

We all know that college is expensive. If you plan on moving to Los Angeles to pursue your studies, expect to pay tuition costs of over $ 10,000 for a year at the Santa Monica College. Add the tuition fees to the rent and cost of living and you'll find yourself spending over $ 4000 a month. Living here is not an option for most students!

If you plan on moving to Santa Monica, you'll have to be prepared, because it will be expensive. Make sure you save enough money to last you one or two months: $ 10,000 should be enough to cover the rent and other expenses till you settle in. It is very important to move here if you have a stable job that pays well: the job market in Los Angeles is not that great so it will be hard to find a good position.
